Shogunz Punched the Playoff Ticket Nov 7th 2006
Stats * Gallery * Comment

With Myla's return, Shogunz clinched the last spot in the playoff as they easily
defeated Aza Aza. Johnson didn't have to score 40+ points last night, but he still
poured in 25 points. Sammy Moy added 12 points.

As it stands, Shogunz will play 2004 in the 1st round of playoff. Winning 3 out of 4
games, Shogunz is entering the playoff on a rise. Check back here later this week
for a full blown preview.

Both Demolition and 2004 lost their game last night. Ricky led 2004 with 17 points.
Kevin and Chi led Demolition with 24 and 18 points, respectively.
Desmond Lui
had season high 13 points
. As it stands, the 7th seed Demolition will likely face
#2 Dino Raja in the 1st round. Preview will be available later this week!

It's Playoff Time!!! Nov 9th 2006                                                                          Comment

Playoff begins next week. Only one thing is certain. One
Hurricanes team will advance to the Final Four, and one
other team will be eliminated in the 1st round! So which
Hurricanes will come out victorious on Tuesday?

Here is the CanesBlog Playoff Preview!

#1 2004 vs #8 Shogunz -- 2004 won the first game against
Shogunz in a dramatic fashion by coming back from 17
points down, led by Ricky Kim's 21 points. 2004 also have
won 4 of their last 5 games. Nevertheless, they are probably
the underdog in this rematch. Two of 2004's top players,
Ricky Kim (22.7 PPG) and Victor Chow (7.5 PPG) will be
unavailable for the game. Meanwhile, Shogunz will have
their full squad. Led by their super scorer, Johnson Lam,
who averaged 35.4 points in his last five games, Shogunz's
hope to advance is depended upon Sammy Moy's ability to shut down 2004's sharp shooter,
Chanan Saelim (12.7 PPG). They also need to rely on Johnson and Shogunz's 2nd option,
Christian Tran (10.4 PPG), to provide the much-needed offense. On the other hand, for 2004 to
win, they have to find a way to exploit Shogunz's frontline, who lost their big men Peter Tran to
ACL tear. Ralph Chiang also needs to have a big defensive game against Johnson.

Bottom Line: The game will be too close to call. It will likely come down to the last shot.

#3 MJ Remodel vs #6 Demolition -- Because Demolition beat Digitas, they got bumped up into
the  #6 seed. What awaits them there is probably the best team in the league -- MJ Remodels.
Led by the best big men in the league, Polansky (6-4, 22.9 PPG), MJ Remodels have a clear size
advantage against Demolition. In order to pull out an upset, Demolition's big men, Shi Mei (8.7
PPG) and Desmond Lui (4.6 PPG), as well as Hing Lin and Albert Chin, must limit MJ's 2nd
chance opportunities by dominating the defensive rebounds. In addition, Kevin Woo (24.4 PPG)
and Chi Lai (17.7 PPG) both need to have a huge offensive night and punish MJ's 2-3 zone.

Bottom Line:  Demolition will defend enough to not let MJ Remodel run away with the game.
However, unless a third scorer emerges behind Kevin Woo and Chi Lai, Demolition are in an
uphill battle against MJ Remodel, who won the 1st matchup against Demolition.

#4 vs #5: Giants has a lot of size, but they will play against PWC, who also have good size.
Giant's will move on if Zeikus (26 PPG) will have his usual game. If Shogunz advance to the 2nd
round, they will have the confidence in playing against Giants, who were blown away in the 1st
match. On the other hand, 2004 will have a tough time against Giants because of their size.

#2 vs #7: Digitas do not have the outside shooting to beat Dino Rajas, who are vulnerable to
good outside shooting teams. If Demolition somehow advance to 2nd round, they can beat Dino
Rajas and advance to the Final.
